The Travelers’ Rest Chapter of the Lewis and Clark Trail Heritage Foundation invites the public to a presentation by Jack Nisbet entitled, “The Mapmaker’s Eye: Tracking David Thompson across the Rocky Mountains.” Nisbet’s lecture will be illustrated with early artwork, tribal oral accounts, and local natural history. This free program will be held tomorrow night, March 1st at 7:00 p.m. in the Lolo Community Center. Contact Dale at 273-3651 for further information.

The faculty of the North Valley Music School in Whitefish invites the public to take a musical journey through classical, bluegrass, and popular music at their upcoming concert this Friday evening March 2 at 7:30 in the O’Shaughnessy Center. Tickets are $10 for the public, $5 for seniors and proceeds will go to the North Valley Music School Scholarship Fund. Please call 862-8074 for more information.

The Bitterroot Valley Bluegrass Festival will be holding a spaghetti dinner fundraiser this Friday, March 2nd at The Kitchen, 102 S. 2nd Street in Hamilton. The dinner features live music with “Bittersweet” and “Mike and Teri Conroy” and will have two seatings: one at 5:30 and the other will begin at 6:30. The cost is $10 for adults and $6 for kids. The student chapter of the Great Bear Foundation will host a lecture by Deborah Williams entitled, “Global Warming and Alaska’s Polar Bears.” The lecture will be at 7:00 p.m. this Friday evening, March 2nd in the North Underground Lecture Hall on the University of Montana campus in Missoula. Theatre Sans Fil, “theater without strings” will be performing “Hansel and Gretel” on Friday, March 2nd at 7:00 p.m. at the Hamilton Performing Arts Center, 327 Fairgrounds Road. The performers will be using a traditional Japanese form of puppetry which features larger than life puppets as well as classical music and special effects. Tickets are $12.50 for general seating and $15 for reserved. Call 375-6074 to reserve your tickets or with any questions.

The Stevensville First Friday celebration on March 2nd will focus on the theme, “Feed the Need” – a benefit for the Pantry Partners food bank. “Bury’s Montana West Gallery” will be featuring the photographic artwork of Nate Shepard and will be donating proceeds from the sale of Shepard’s photo notecards to Pantry Partners.

The Drummond Area Chamber of Commerce will be presenting the “Ringling 5” in concert this Saturday, March 3rd at 7:00 p.m.in the Drummond High School Gymnasium. Tickets are $10 in advance and $12 at the door. For tickets, please call 288-3201.

The Families with Children from China invites everyone to a Chinese New Year Celebration and no-host potluck dinner this Saturday, March 3rd from 4 – 7 p.m. at the Helena Alliance Church,
1030 Choteau Street in Helena. This is the year of the Boar and children’s activities will be featured for the celebration. Call Patty at 443-2040 for further details.
This Saturday, March 3rd from 10 a.m. to 4 p.m., the Butte/Silver Bow Arts Foundation, located at 405 West Park Street will hold a free, “Experience Art Day.” The “Silver Dollar Band” will begin playing music at 7:30 p.m. that evening and there is a $5.00 charge for this event. This Sunday, March 4th at 3:00 p.m., the Charlo High School gymnasium will come alive with the sound of braying and hee-hawing as the Charlo Close Up students take on the Charlo Fire Department, faculty, and alumni in rousing games of Donkey Ball! Preceding the games will be a barbeque that begins at 2:00 p.m. This is the final fundraising event before the 12 juniors and seniors leave for their week of seminars and workshops in Washington, DC, Philadelphia, and New York City.

If you missed the Humane Society of Western Montana’s Adopt-A-Thon 2007 last week, you’re still encouraged to mail in your pledge or a donation to the shelter. The shelter is located at 5930 Highway 93 South in Missoula, 59804.

The YWCA of Missoula is seeking volunteer advocates to work at the women and children’s domestic violence shelter, answer crisis calls, work with children who’ve witnessed domestic violence, or work with sexual assault survivors. To learn more, call Paula at the YWCA at
