The film, “Gobi Women’s Song” will be shown TONIGHT at 7:00 p.m. in the University Center Theatre on The University of Montana campus in Missoula. The film features five 21st Century nomadic women who share the rhythm of their harsh daily lives. The film will be followed by a question and answer session with the filmmaker, Sas Carey. TONIGHT at the Missoula Public Library, Norman Smyers, President of the Glacial Lake Missoula Chapter of the Ice Age Floods Institute, will present a lecture entitled, “Glacial Lake Missoula and the Ice Age Floods.” This lecture is part of a series of lectures called, “Know Montana,” and will be held in the Large Meeting Room of the Library at 7:00 p.m. For more information, please contact the Library at 721-2665.

Beginning tonight at 6:00 p.m. through June 6th, St Patrick Hospital Diabetes Center will host weekly programs on “Diabetes Prevention/Lifestyle Changes.” Those participating will receive a Wellness Profile, pedometer, a tailored eating plan, a 6-week membership to St Patrick’s Fitness Center, and a home blood sugar testing meter. The CampusRec department invites all University of Montana students and staff to join them for a ski/snowboard trip to Fernie, British Columbia. Fernie is about 4-5 hours north of Missoula and the trip will begin this Friday, February 23 – Sunday, February 25th. Call 243-2804 for complete details.

The Tibetan Children’s Education Foundation will be holding a “Losar Celebration” featuring Tibetan inspired music, food, a short film, a bazaar, and a silent auction. The New Year celebration will be held this Friday, February 23rd at 7:00 p.m. at the United Covenant Methodist Church, 2330 Broadway, in Missoula. A $20 tax deductible donation is suggested. Beginning tomorrow, February 22nd through Saturday, February 24th, join the Humane Society of Western Montana for their “Adopt-A-Thon, 2007.” More than 75 dogs, cats, puppies, kittens, guinea pigs, and rabbits will be available for adoption. The Humane Society, located at 5930 Hwy 93 South in Missoula will be open for special extended hours, from 12 – 8 p.m. on Thursday and Friday, and from 12 – 5 p.m. on Saturday. The Missoula Folklore Society will be conducting an International Dance Class and Contra Dancing this Friday night from 7:30 – 9:30 at 208 E. Main Street. There is a $5.00 registration fee and you call 549-7149 for further details.

This Saturday, February 24th at 8:00 p.m. the Missoula Senior Center is sponsoring a dance to the music of The Lockwood Versatiles. Call the Senior Center at 543-7154 if you’d like more information.

The Jeanette Rankin ‘Peace Center in Missoula is looking for design ideas for developing a 4-acre park on lower Waterworks Hill adjacent to the interstate and visible from the Farmer’s market. The park is intended to be a visible sign of the desire for peace, and they are looking for ideas from schools, artists, veteran groups, and from individuals. The University of Montana’s Wilderness Institute requests proposals from the public for the Matthew Hansen Endowment grant. Funding is available for projects focusing on Montana
history research, creative writing, and wilderness studies projects. The Endowment seeks to encourage mindful stewardship of the land, both wild and cultivated, and to contribute to the preservation of Montana’s cultural heritage. Proposals are due by March 1st.
