The Lolo Squares/Swingola Square Dance Clubs are offering beginning square dance lessons TONIGHT, beginning at 6:30 p.m. in the Square Dance Center, 2 /1/2 miles west of Lolo on Highway 12. Please call Barry at 273-0652 for further information.

“Easy Mexican Food” will be the main entrée for the “Real Meals – for Women” scheduled for Thursday, January 11th at the Orchard Gardens Community Barn, 210 N. Grove Street in Missoula. Real Meals is a project of the Women’s Economic Justice and Missoula Community Co-op in which a meal is prepared and shared among women in collaboration to create community and opportunity. Meals are held every second Thursday of the month from 6:00 – 9:00 p.m. The suggested donation is $7 or whatever you can contribute, and Food Stamps are accepted. The Citizens for Clean Energy in Fort Benton, a grassroots group of citizens concerned with further development of old style coal generating facilities and renewable energy is hosting a screening of the documentary, “Kilowatt Ours.” The program will be held tomorrow night, Thursday, January 11th from 7 – 9 p.m., in The Agricultural Museum and Cultural Center. The Bitterroot Cross Country Ski Club will hold its monthly meeting on Thursday night starting at 7:00 p.m. in the First Presbyterian Church, 1220 West Main St in Hamilton. The program will feature Mike McEachem who will present 3-dimensional views of caves in Montana. Those attending are also encouraged to bring non-perishable food items to be donated to Haven House. The Hockaday Museum of Art in Kalispell is sponsoring two special events this week: one for seniors and one for students. A Senior Tour and Tea will take place tomorrow, January 11th and will offer seniors free refreshments and admission into the Museum. Seniors are invited to meet in the Museum Gift Shop at 10:30 a.m. for a docent-led tour of the galleries. Then on Saturday, January 13th students with an ID are admitted free to the Museum. Everyone is invited to join the Montana Natural History Center and Dr. Jim Halfpenny who will be presenting a slide and video illustrated lecture entitled, “The Magic of Bears.” The program will be held at 7 p.m. this Friday night at the Montana Natural History Center, 120 Hickory Street in Missoula. Jim’s lecture delves in to the sizes of bears, their behavior, adventures afield and lessons people have learned from the large bruins. Then on Saturday, January 13th from 9 – 4:30 p.m., join Dr. Halfpenny when he presents an overview of Mammal Tracking. This program will provide a glimpse into the three main aspects of tracking: foot print identification, gaits and trails, and reading stories. The program will begin at the Montana Natural History Center and then travels to the Nine Mile area for in-the-field practice. The cost of this workshop is $60 or $50 for members. World Wide Cinema, Missoula Public Library’s international and independent film series will be premiering the film Something Like Happiness this Friday, January 12th at 7 p.m. in the large meeting room. This award winning film from the Czech Republic is a funny, tender, and very human drama, shadowed by tragedy, but shot through with hope. The doors at the lower level of the library will open at 6:45 p.m., and the film begins at 7:00. The short film, Backseat Bingo will be shown at the conclusion of Something Like Happiness. The Flathead Audubon Society is sponsoring a birding field trip in West Valley, north of Kalispell this Saturday, January 13th. Beginning at 8:30 a.m., this half-day trip to search for winter migrants and year-round birds will meet at the MT Fish, Wildlife, and Parks building, 490 N. Meridian in Kalispell. Everyone is welcome to attend – members and non-members alike- and the trip is free. Call Leslie at 837-4467 for further details.

This Saturday, January 13th the City of Kalispell Parks and Recreation is sponsoring a Contra Dance at the Northridge Lutheran Church, 323 Northridge Drive. Contra dancing is New England style folk dancing to live music of Celtic jigs and reels and there will be a dance caller who teaches and cues the simple dance figures. Lessons will begin at 7:30 p.m. and the dancing will be from
8:00 – 11:00 p.m. The cost is $6 for adults, $3 for teens, and $12 for families.

The Montana Discovery Foundation in Helena invites all who are interested in learning about the outdoors in the wintertime, to a Snow School Hike on Flesher Pass. This moderate snowshoe hike will begin at 10:00 a.m. at the top of Flesher Pass on hwy. 279 between Helena and Lincoln. Equipment is provided and group size is limited to 15. This event is free and open to the public, but reservations are required by calling the Montana Discovery Foundation at 495-3718.
